Man held over railway cable theft in Ipoh


IPOH: Police have arrested a local man suspected of stealing cables belonging to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) along the railway track at KM181.9 near Jalan Tun Perak.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the suspect was arrested at 4.30pm on Monday (May 4) by KTMB auxiliary police together with personnel from the Ipoh police headquarters.

"The suspect acted aggressively and attempted to flee but was successfully apprehended. Police also seized a plastic bag containing three rolls of cables.

"A urine test on the suspect returned positive for methamphetamine and checks revealed he has a record of seven crimes and 15 drug-related offences," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 5).

He said the 39-year-old suspect was remanded for three days for an investigation under Section 66 of the Railways Act 1991. – Bernama
