KERALAM, INDIA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim departed from Keralam, formerly known as Kerala, for an official visit to the Maldives after completing his five-day working visit to India.
The aircraft carrying the Prime Minister departed Calicut International Airport here at 7.26pm local time (9.56pm Malaysian time) on Monday (Sept 14) for Velana International Airport in Male.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, is accompanied on the working visit by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
In Male, Anwar and Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu are scheduled to assess the progress of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.
They are also scheduled to witness the exchange of memoranda of understanding on defence cooperation and Islamic affairs.
Earlier, the Prime Minister met Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to discuss bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Keralam in key sectors, including trade and investment, tourism, healthcare and education.
The Prime Minister arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modern diplomatic relations between Putrajaya and New Delhi were established in 1957, shortly after Malaysia gained independence. India remains Malaysia's largest trading partner in South Asia, with bilateral trade reaching US$18.55bil (RM79.33bil) in 2025. – Bernama
