IPOH: A food stall owner was fined RM18,000 by the Taiping Sessions Court for misrepresenting its operations as a halal-certified premises.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry Perak director Datuk Kamaluddin Ismail said the individual, Seah Thien Lim, 43, pleaded guilty after being charged on Monday (Sept 14).
Kamaluddin said the accused put the words "Allah" and "Muhammad" at his premises, which was an offence under Paragraph 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions (Definition of Halal) Order.
"A team of enforcement officers conducted a check at the premises at Jalan Kamunting on Jan 1 this year at 1.16pm.
"Checks conducted also found the premises did not have a halal certificate," he said in a statement.
"Further analysis on two bottles of soy sauce contained pig DNA," he added.
