Lorry driver killed in rock quarry accident in Perak


IPOH: A 53-year-old lorry driver was killed after a rock fell on the vehicle at a quarry in Keramat Pulai, near Simpang Pulai here.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victim, identified as M. Sivakumar, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel following the incident on Monday (Sept 14) at about 5.15pm.

"The incident is believed to have occurred while quarrying work was being conducted.

"A rock fell on top of the lorry that was laden with quarried rocks," he said in a statement.

"The victim, who was trapped in the vehicle, was taken out of the vehicle and was declared to have died.

"The body has been handed over to the police for the next course of action," he added.
