Ipoh cops nab four, seize 18 bikes in anti-street racing ops


IPOH: Police seized 18 motorcycles and arrested four individuals during an integrated operation against illegal street racing at Jalan Pasir Puteh near Station 18 here.

The operation, codenamed Ops Bersepadu Samseng Jalanan, was conducted by Ipoh police together with the Perak Environment Department (DOE) from 2.30am on Sunday (Sept 13).

It involved 66 personnel, including police officers, police volunteers, DOE officers and Sahabat teams.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said 214 motorcycles and 271 individuals aged between 13 and 35 were inspected during the operation, with most of those checked being teenagers.

“Checks found that 18 motorcycles were seized for offences under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Four individuals were also arrested for riding motorcycles recklessly and dangerously under Section 42(1) of the same Act,” he said in a statement.

ACP Muhammad Najib said police also issued 416 traffic summonses for various offences.

He added that four summonses were issued by the police and DOE under Section 48A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

“The Ipoh district police will continue conducting integrated operations from time to time to strengthen enforcement against road hooligans in the district.

“This is also part of our efforts to reduce road accidents and prevent street crime in and around Ipoh,” he said.

ACP Muhammad Najib advised the public to comply with traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
