IPOH: The six-year-old girl injured in an accident that killed an 18-year-old at KM388 southbound of the North-South Expressway in Muallim has also died.
Muallim OCPD Superintendent Khalid Mohamad said the child died at the Slim River Hospital emergency ward following the 8.30am accident on Saturday (Nov 7).
"The child was seriously injured and died while receiving treatment," he said in a statement.
It was reported earlier Saturday that the 18-year-old was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel after the car they were in crashed into a guardrail.
Another 20-year-old woman in the same car was also injured and is currently being treated at the same hospital.
Supt Khalid said the car was driven by a 27-year-old man, and they were headed towards Kuala Lumpur from Perlis before the incident.
"The car is believed to have lost control before swerving to the side of the road and crashed into the guardrail.
"We are still trying to determine the real cause of the accident," he said, adding that the matter is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
"We call on witnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Muhammad Taufiq Abd Aziz on 016-418 4507 to assist investigations.
"We also advise road users to always be careful and adhere to traffic rules to prevent untoward incidents," he added.
