Man dies after guardrail pierces car on PLUS expressway


IPOH: A man has been killed after the car he was driving skidded and was pierced by a guardrail on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Gopeng.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received an emergency call at 4.29pm on Tuesday (May 5) and a team from Simpang Pulai was dispatched to the scene.

He said two vehicles were involved in the accident.

He said the deceased was identified as 37-year-old Mohd Iqhbal Afiq Abd Ghafar, who was driving one of the cars.

"The victim was pinned inside the vehicle after the guardrail pierced through the car. He was pronounced dead," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Sabarodzi added that also in the victim's car was his wife, his two daughters and a niece. All four sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The driver of the other car escaped unhurt.

He said the team used hydraulic equipment to remove the remains of the victim and the body was handed over to the police for further action.

The operation was brought under control at 5.25pm and concluded at 6.46pm. – Bernama
