GEORGE TOWN: An 81-year-old woman was killed after being run over by a car at the Desa Green Flats in Solok Slim here on Tuesday (Sept 8).
Northeast OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the local woman died from head injuries at the parking area of Block 42 at about 2.48pm.
He said initial investigations found that the victim had just alighted from a GrabCar and was walking towards the block when she tripped and fell onto the road.
“A passing car struck her before continuing without stopping,” he said.
Police received a report on the fatal accident at about 3.50pm.
CCTV footage from the flats showed the woman falling onto the road shortly after getting out of the e-hailing vehicle before she was run over by a car approaching from behind.
Two residents were seated on a stone bench nearby when the incident occurred.
One of the women noticed the victim had fallen and appeared to be moving to help her when the car struck the victim.
She immediately rushed over to check on the woman, while another resident also came forward to help and seek assistance.
The victim’s body was taken to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
ACP Abdul Rozak said that as of 6.51pm, the driver involved had yet to lodge a police report.
