PETALING JAYA: Motorists entering or leaving the country via Johor will soon be able to clear immigration using a QR code, as the Home Ministry announces the trial of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe).
In a statement on Saturday (Sep 20), the ministry said that the trial run of NIISe would begin on Sept 22.
During the trial phase, two of the country’s busiest checkpoints, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB), would be involved, but initially only the car lanes would be used.
At BSI, the trial would involve 16 car lanes (eight inbound and eight outbound), while KSAB would have 12 car lanes (six inbound and six outbound) involved.
The ministry said motorists must first download the MyNIISe mobile application.
“The app is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery,” it said.
Motorists can then generate individual or group QR codes through the app, which would be scanned at designated car lanes during immigration checks.
To ease the transition, the ministry said guides and instructions would be made available to the public through official posters and videos on its social media platforms.
The ministry said the response so far has been encouraging, with more than 10,000 downloads of the MyNIISe app recorded as of Sept 19.
“During the trial period, the ministry welcomes user feedback, which may be submitted via email at support_myniise@imi.gov.my,” it said.
The ministry added that the use of QR codes would be expanded in phases.
“After the car lane trial, the QR code system will be extended to motorcycle lanes, as well as pedestrian and bus passenger lanes, starting the following month,” it said.
