NIISe to be fully implemented in September, says Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA: The National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) will be fully implemented in September whereas the new enhanced security features for the MyKad and passports will be rolled out in June, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the move is part of the Home Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the national identification system and improve public service delivery.

He added that documents submitted through the application, including identity cards and passports, will be equipped with the latest security features in line with current requirements and increasingly complex security challenges.

"I believe the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Immigration Department are fully prepared with their plans.

"I am confident we will successfully reach this historic milestone in Septmeber, as it is time for us to issue new documents with enhanced security features," he said at the ministry's monthly assembly here on Monday (May 4).

He also said the ministry will launch a system in June for applications and submission of citizenship information approved under the Federal Constitution.

"We have made significant progress in preparing all the prerequisites or enablers for the system ahead of its launch," he added.

In March, Saifuddin Nasution said the ministry would begin a phased rollout of NIISe at all air, land and sea entry points nationwide from March 31, aimed at strengthening border security through a more efficient and user-friendly digital immigration system.

The rollout would begin with pilot implementations at selected locations, he said.

At Monday's assembly, Saifuddin Nasution said the implementation of the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to delivering a more efficient system capable of addressing public issues and complaints related to identity management.

He also stressed the importance of border security and the efficiency of the immigration system in managing entry and exit movements.

He said the government would not compromise in ensuring that immigration and national security systems remain at the highest level, in line with increasing global mobility and evolving security threats.

"For me, this is an important key performance indicator for the ministry this year. Our national borders must not be breached by syndicates that disregard the law," he said.
