PORT DICKSON: Preserving Sri Tanjung's historical identity while ensuring future developments do not come at the expense of its heritage is among the key pledges made by independent candidate Islah Wahyudi Zainudin in his manifesto.
Islah Wahyudi said he will ensure the local authorities include accurate and easily understood information at historical sites, adding that their value should be preserved for the generations to come.
“There should not be any rebranding or attempts to change the identity of a location that disregards historical facts.
“Changes should not be done without prior public consultation.
“At the same time, modern developments here should continue in line with efforts to preserve history and the local identity,” he said when presenting his manifesto here on Wednesday (July 22).
Uplifting and enforcing the proper use of the Malay language on signboards will be another aspect looked into.
“At the same time, small traders who are earning a living should not be easy targets for enforcement authorities. Enforcement must be fair and in accordance with the law,” he said, adding that another aspect he will be focusing on is ensuring action is taken against any structures without permits.
Among the other items in his manifesto are ensuring the local authorities enforce the law in a fair, consistent and transparent manner.
“There must be periodic reports produced by the local authorities to ensure transparency and accountability. The reports must also be made publicly available,” he said.
Islah Wahyudi is among the five candidates vying for the Sri Tanjung seat in the Negri Sembilan state assembly.
Also contesting are incumbent Pakatan Harapan assemblyman Datuk Dr G. Rajasekaran, Barisan Nasional’s A. Achutan, Bersatu’s M. Leevineshwaraan and another independent Datuk A. Saravanan.
Pakatan’s Rajasekaran won the seat with a 3,996 majority at the 2023 state polls.
