ALOR SETAR: PAS has pledged that, if entrusted with the responsibility to lead the nation, it will uphold the Federal Constitution while safeguarding the rights and interests of non-Muslims.

Party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said that in line with Islamic principles, the party would unite a plural society in harmony and security.

He also assured non-Muslims that PAS will uphold four main pledges.

"Islam prioritises peace and brotherhood, with no compulsion in religion, even when Islam holds full authority," he said in his presidential policy speech at the central 71st PAS Muktamar here on Monday (Sept 15).

PAS, he said, also pledges that Islam obliges those in power to act justly towards all.

"Islam also permits adherents of other faiths to practice what is permitted by their religions, within the boundaries of safeguarding the sensitivities of Muslims, and Islam commands its followers to respect the sensitivities of non-Muslims, even in matters relating to the belief in God," he added.
