Missing airman was hiding in girlfriend's apartment


SERDANG: A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) personnel member, who was reported missing since Aug 24 was found at a condominium unit in Ampang Jaya on Wednesday (Sept 3).

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said 27-year-old Muhammad Ammar Mohd Ariffin was discovered at his girlfriend’s residence around 1.30pm.

"The airman, who had earlier been reported missing, was found together with his girlfriend at her unit,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.

The discovery was made by a police team from the Serdang police headquarters, following information received on his whereabouts, he said.

ACP arid added that the Ammar had been staying at condominium since Aug 23.

"He gave an excuse as he was afraid as he had hit a military officer vehicle before fleeing the scene.

"We would like to thank all parties who provided information that helped in locating him,” he said.

Ammar was last seen after attending the Vehicle Transport Supervisor Course at the RMAF Institute of Material Management Training (INSMAT) in Bandar Kinrara.

He was allowed to return home with other participants on Aug 22 but failed to report back when required on Aug 25.

A missing persons report was lodged by his course supervisor on the same day.

Investigations revealed that Ammar, who is based at the Subang Air Base, was last spotted at Sungai Kedondong on Aug 23 at around 4.30pm. Attempts by a course mate to contact him on Aug 24 were unsuccessful as his phone had been switched off.
