'Wave the Jalur Gemilang this National Day,' Fahmi urges Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: A campaign to encourage Malaysians to express their patriotism through the Jalur Gemilang was launched at all Petronas stations nationwide in conjunction with Merdeka Day, says Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister flagged off the "Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang" campaign at the Petronas station along the New Pantai Expressway in Pantai Dalam on Sunday (Aug 9).

During the launch ceremony, Fahmi pasted Jalur Gemilang magnets onto vehicles and distributed flags to customers at the station.

Also present were Information Department director-general Erwin Khairul and Petronas Dagangan Berhad Fuel Retail Department general manager Feiruz Ghazali.

"As part of the National Day and Malaysia Day programme, today we are at the Petronas station in Pantai Dalam, in the Kampung Kerinchi area, to distribute the Jalur Gemilang and further promote the spirit of patriotism, particularly during National Month.

"This year, as part of our distribution, we are increasing the distribution of Jalur Gemilang magnets.

"These can be attached to and removed from either the front of a vehicle or the passenger door.

"This makes things easier for vehicle owners because, based on feedback we received previously, they prefer magnets compared with flags or items that must be permanently attached to their vehicles.

"So, this is one improvement we have introduced this year," said Fahmi.

He said that for 2026, one key National Month initiative is "One House, One Jalur Gemilang", which comprises 11 programmes across nine clusters, including education, health, security and federal agencies.

"There are 123 Information Department headquarters locations, 172 locations in the states, as well as nearly 2,000 Madani Community locations throughout the country.

"These activities are taking place from now until the end of National Month on Sept 16.

"We are also handing over kits for the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' initiative, which was launched on Aug 1 by the Chief Secretary to the Government," said Fahmi.

"We also have the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang programme, supported by Jago," said Fahmi.

Jago is the Information Department's latest mobile public-address broadcasting unit.

Fahmi added that under the Singgah Media Merdeka programme held from Aug 5 to Aug 18, there will also be a series of information-sharing sessions conducted by the Information Department.

The national Merdeka Day celebrations are scheduled to take place in Putrajaya on Aug 31.
