MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states until 5pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with alerts in effect until 5pm on Monday (Sept 1).

People in the entire state of Perlis should be on alert for severe weather while Langkawi, Kubang Pasu and Padang Terap in Kedah are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

In Perak, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim are forecast to be affected.

Similarly, a thunderstorm warning has been issued for Kemaman in Terengganu as well as Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan and Bera in Pahang.

In Selangor, Sabak Bernam is expected to experience severe weather and a similar warning has been issued for Batu Pahat and Pontian in Johor

In Sabah, the warning covers the interior districts of Kuala Penyu and Beaufort, the West Coast areas of Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud, as well as Beluran in Sandakan district and Kudat.

The Federal Territory of Labuan is also included in the alert.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
