MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states and territories until 1pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, with warnings in effect until 1pm on Monday (Sept 1).

In Selangor, areas including Klang and Kuala Langat are on alert for severe weather conditions, while in Johor, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru are expected to face thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

In Sabah, the warning covers the interior districts of Kuala Penyu and Beaufort, as well as the West Coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.

The Federal Territory of Labuan is also forecast to experience adverse weather during this period.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather information from MetMalaysia.
