MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states until 6pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with warnings in effect until 6pm on Sunday (Aug 31).

In Kedah, areas including Kota Setar, Yan, Pendang, and Kuala Muda are on alert for severe weather.

In Perak, the warning covers Hulu Perak, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, and Muallim.

In Kelantan, districts such as Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, and Kuala Krai are expected to be affected.

Besut, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun, and Kemaman are the affected areas in Terengganu, while in Pahang, residents in Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, and Pekan are advised to prepare for adverse conditions.

In Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Hulu Langat are under the warning.

The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is also included in the alert.

Meanwhile, in Negeri Sembilan, Jelebu is on alert for severe weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
