MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with the alert in effect until noon on Thursday (Aug 28).

In Perlis, residents should brace for severe weather conditions, while in Kedah, the entire state is expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

Penang is also forecast to experience adverse weather during this period.

In Perak, the districts of Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim are all under the warning.

The districts of Jeli and Gua Musang in Kelantan are expected to see severe weather as well.

In Pahang, Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera are on alert.

Residents in Selangor, along with those in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, should also be prepared for potentially hazardous conditions.

Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have both been included in the warning, as adverse weather is forecast across both states.

In Johor, the regions of Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang and Pontian are expected to face severe weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather information from MetMalaysia.
