Teenage biker killed, younger brother seriously injured in Muar collision

MUAR: A teenage motorcyclist was killed while his six-year-old brother sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle collided with a lorry here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident occurred when the lorry was heading from Parit Naib Kadir towards Parit Lanjut in Bukit Pasir at around 12pm on Thursday (July 17).

“When the lorry arrived at the junction, the 61-year-old driver stopped before turning right onto the main road.

“However, a motorcycle ridden by the 17-year-old, came from behind, overtook the lorry on the right and crashed into the heavy vehicle,” he said in a statement.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the teen rider died at the scene due to severe head injuries, while his younger brother sustained serious injuries to the head and face. The boy was being treated at the Muar Hospital.

The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000.

He also urged witnesses or those with information to contact the case investigating officer, Insp Noor Khairun Izham Nor Yusry at 013-9121508 or visit the Muar district police headquarters.
