Pasir Gudang factory worker dies in motorcycle-garbage truck accident


PASIR GUDANG: A factory worker died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a rigid garbage truck.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident happened at Jalan Felda Cahaya Baru, Masai on Wednesday (March 25) at 8.50am near here.

He said the 31-year-old victim, a local, was travelling from Sungai Tiram to his work place in Pasir Gudang, while the 51-year-old lorry driver, also a Malaysian, was going in the opposite direction.

“Upon arriving at the road bend, both vehicles brushed against each other, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown onto the road," ACP Mohd Sohaimi said in a statement.

He added that the victim suffered from serious chest injuries and was pronounced dead by the assistant medical officer from the Sungai Tiram Health Clinic.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi said the lorry driver escaped unhurt and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He called upon witnesses on the case to contact the Seri Alam Police District Continent at 07-3864 222, 07-3873 552 or 07-3871 442 to assist with investigation.
