SHAH ALAM: The lease for Perikatan Nasional's headquarters in the Solaris Dutamas area in Kuala Lumpur was has expired in April after a two-year tenancy, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic).
The Bersatu and Perikatan secretary-general said the rental agreement was not renewed as agreed with the owner.
"The matter was informed and agreed upon by Perikatan's highest leadership.
"Perikatan's headquarters is still operating as usual by our staff at an unofficial location while waiting for our new premises to be ready," he said in a statement, Sinar Harian reported on Sunday (July 6).
Azmin added that reports claiming that Perikatan's headquarters had shut down were untrue and irresponsible.
The office was where Perikatan's supreme council meetings were held since the coalition's formation in 2020.
Sinar Harian also reported Perikatan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as saying that the management of the office and administration matters fell under their secretary-general.
Meanwhile, Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said communication channels between the party leaders and party machinery remain uninterrupted.
"We still have staff who are still serving. I am constantly receiving information from headquarters, which shows that things are still functioning as usual," he was quoted as saying.
He said the issue arose when the tenancy contract was not renewed, adding that it was not a big issue.
