Azmin Ali is Bersatu's new election director

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu has appointed Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the party's new election director.

His appointment was among the key decisions made during the Bersatu supreme council meeting chaired by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, which lasted nearly four hours on Thursday night and focused on current political developments, particularly in Johor.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also Bersatu secretary-general, said his role is to prepare the party for elections and enhance cooperation among leaders at various levels.

He said a central operations room or "war room" equipped with advanced technology and a digital election operating system would begin operations on June 1.

"Field auditing and monitoring operations led by Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu will be mobilised extensively in Bersatu focus areas from May 15," he said.

Mohamed Azmin said the supreme council had instructed the Johor party leadership to intensify discussions and cooperation with Perikatan Nasional and other parties willing to bring change to the state.

He said the supreme council had taken note of developments in Negri Sembilan and Melaka, both of which are expected to face state elections soon.

"Bersatu will hold a high-level strategic discussion in June involving top leaders from Johor, Negri Sembilan and Melaka to refine new strategies," he said.

Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who was expelled from Bersatu in February 2026, was the party's previous election director.

Mohamed Azmin expressed support for Bersatu's communications efforts led by Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to strengthen strategic messaging through mainstream and social media platforms.

Bersatu also appointed Muhammad Hilman Idham to be the party's representative in the Perikatan Nasional supreme council.

The party also confirmed the appointments of Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi as Lembah Pantai party chief and Safian Mohd Yunus as Bandar Tun Razak chief in a restructuring exercise.
