Melaka polls: Ab Rauf urges BN machinery to cooperate with PAS

MELAKA: Barisan Nasional’s election machinery must work with PAS without prejudice in view that the leadership has agreed to cooperate in the Melaka polls, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Melaka Barisan chairman urged party workers to embrace the decision with an open mind and coordinate their efforts with their PAS counterparts.

“Work together with PAS. The decision has been made, and I call on our entire election machinery to work alongside theirs.

“This must be done without prejudice,” he said after launching Barisan’s election machinery for the Pantai Kundor constituency here on Friday (Oct 23).

Also present were incumbent for Pantai Kundor, Datuk Tuminah Kadi and Melaka MCA chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

Ab Rauf, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, said the state polls would not only determine Melaka’s future but also serve as a crucial test ahead of the next general election.

“This is also a step towards the general election.

"God willing, if we succeed in Melaka, we will succeed in Putrajaya,” he said.

He added that a united effort by Barisan and PAS would be vital to winning back public confidence in the coalition.

The Election Commission has set Nov 14 for polling, with nominations on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
