Biker nabbed for allegedly blocking ambulance in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a man suspected of obstructing an ambulance from responding to an emergency at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Sungai Tiram, near here, in an incident that has gone viral on social media.

Barat Daya OCPD Asst Comm Anuwal Ab Wahab said police detected a 44-second video uploaded to the 'MRCS Penang' TikTok account on Friday (Oct 23), showing a motorcyclist blocking an ambulance's path.

"Following the viral video, police managed to track down and arrest the man today. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving," he said in a statement.

He said investigations are ongoing and road users are advised to comply with traffic regulations and give way to emergency vehicles, adding that obstructing emergency vehicles could hamper life-saving efforts.

The public was also advised against speculating about the case, as it could interfere with police investigations. - Bernama
