Medical officer, driver injured after ambulance overturns in Melaka

MELAKA: A 33-year-old male assistant medical officer fractured his right hand after the ambulance he was travelling in overturned in an incident at Kampung Laya Luboh in Tangga Batu, here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said that the incident occurred at about 10.45am on Friday (June 20), where the 40-year-old male ambulance driver also sustained a minor injury.

He identified the injured as Muhammad Nur Muhaimi Ibrahim, a medical assistant from the Sungai Udang Health Clinic, and the ambulance driver as Mohd Aminudin Kasim.

He said the ambulance was on the way to Bukit Rambai Health Clinic when it skidded and hit a wall of a house before landing on its side due to the impact.

Meanwhile, Tangga Batu Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Senior Fire Officer Mohamed Azuani Mat Yusof said they received an emergency call at 10.48am, prompting the deployment of eight firefighters to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found the two medical staff had sustained injuries,” he said.

It's understood that at the time of the incident, the ambulance was en route to ferry a patient when it overturned at a bend, believed to have been caused by slippery road conditions following heavy rain.
