QuickCheck: Is Aug 21 a public holiday in Melaka?

MALAYSIANS love public holidays. So is there a public holiday declared on Aug 21 in Melaka?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Bernama reported that there will be no public holiday in Melaka on Aug 21, as the date is not listed in the state's 2026 Public Holiday Schedule and no occasional holiday has been declared.

State secretary Datuk Salhah Salleh said a clarification had been issued to dispel public confusion over Aug 21 (Friday), which has been linked to Melaka's Unesco World Heritage recognition.

"All public services, schooling and daily activities will continue as usual on Aug 21.

"However, this is subject to the regulations set by the respective authorities, employers and institutions," he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Aug 11).

At the same time, Salleh said the state government remained committed to preserving and promoting Melaka's historical, cultural and heritage assets recognised as Unesco World Heritage Sites.
