KUANTAN: Pahang Barisan Nasional remains committed to maintaining the unity government with Pakatan Harapan until the 16th General Election (GE16), says its chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
The Pahang Mentri Besar said the state leadership would continue to focus on carrying out its responsibilities to safeguard the well-being of the people.
"We will discuss it... I hope we (the unity government) can remain together until GE16,” he told reporters after officiating the 2026 Makmur Pahang Initiative Presentation Ceremony for the Overseas Study Assistance Cluster at Wisma Sri Pahang here on Friday (Aug 14).
In GE15, Barisan and Perikatan Nasional each won 17 seats in the Pahang Legislative Assembly, while Pakatan secured eight seats, with the state assembly having a total of 42 seats.
On Nov 27, 2022, Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented to the formation of a state government comprising Barisan and Pakatan, and to the appointment of Wan Rosdy as Mentri Besar.
Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said Pahang Barisan was open to forming cooperation with any party in preparation for GE16.
On Friday’s event, he said RM118,000 had been allocated to 118 students from institutions of higher learning to assist them in preparing for further studies in Egypt and New Zealand in August 2026.
He said the Pahang state government had also channelled US$1,000 through Yayasan Pahang to students studying in Jordan and Morocco.
"I would like to advise them to study hard, uphold Pahang’s good name and return home with excellent achievements. At the same time, I urge them to strengthen themselves mentally and physically, as studying abroad comes with many challenges,” he said.
Wan Rosdy said the Makmur Pahang Initiative would continue to be expanded and enhanced to meet students’ needs from time to time.
"We also look at the syllabus and courses offered. Among the factors taken into consideration are courses with Islamic elements, as well as fields of study that are relevant,” he said.- Bernama
