MELAKA: Despite losing some members to Bersama, PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim says the party is continuing to grow stronger.
“I do not deny that there have been applications by party members to leave the party previously. Some members gave the reason that they had lost confidence in the party and were joining the party established by Rafizi (Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli),” he said at a press conference on the sidelines of PKR’s annual congress.
He said the number of PKR members who quit to join Bersama was not significant.
“It has certainly not affected the functions of PKR as an organisation.
"And today, we can see that the party has grown stronger, with the presence of delegates in big numbers showing their commitment and determination to be with the party,” he added.
Kamil was also asked to comment on Bersama’s plans to announce its candidates for the Melaka state elections on Aug 15.
Rafizi had recently said that Bersama will announce its candidates for the Melaka state election on Aug 15, adding that the party’s preparations for the state polls had entered the final stage.
“As part of the democratic framework in Malaysia, we do not have the right to prevent any party from contesting in any election,” he said while adding that there had been a shift in political dynamics after 2018.
"That does not affect our political journey at all. We do not deny that there may be some impact, because perhaps there is an overlap in terms of the voter segment, as we saw in the Johor state elections,” he said.
Kamil said Pakatan Harapan had lost the Bukit Batu and Perling seats in the Johor state elections due to the shift in votes to Bersama
“The message is that every vote counts. We need to ensure that we are able to secure as many votes as possible,” he said.
