MELAKA: A 40-year-old father has been detained for allegedly sexually and physically abusing his two young children over four months.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect from Sungai Udang here was arrested after a police report was lodged at 4pm on Tuesday (Aug 11) over the suspected abuse of his seven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter.
“The suspect was arrested by a team from the Melaka police headquarters at 11.35pm on the same day,” he said on Wednesday.
However, Melaka police have yet to respond to the media on whether the suspect was a former military personnel.
DCP Dzulkhairi said the children were believed to have been abused between May and August.
“Both victims have been sent for medical examinations,” he said.
He said the suspect had been remanded until Sunday to assist investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).
DCP Dzulkhairi added that the suspect tested negative for drugs and had no previous criminal record.
