PETALING JAYA: Retail prices of non-subsidised petroleum products will fall from Aug 13 to 19 following a decline in global crude oil prices last week, says the Finance Ministry.
RON97 will drop by 20 sen to RM4.15 per litre, while non-subsidised RON95 will decrease by 15 sen to RM3.62 per litre.
Non-subsidised diesel will fall by 10 sen to RM4.47 per litre.
In a statement Wednesday (Aug 12), the ministry said Brent crude prices fell below US$80 per barrel at the beginning of the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) calculation period, their lowest level in three weeks.
However, prices rose towards the end of the period amid renewed geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Iran, as well as concerns over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“The price of petroleum products is expected to continue fluctuating significantly in the near future,” the ministry said.
It added that the Government would continue protecting households and businesses from the impact of global price volatility through targeted subsidies.
The subsidised prices remain at RM1.99 per litre for RON95 under Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) and RM2.10 per litre for diesel under Budi Madani Diesel.
The Government bears a subsidy of RM1.63 per litre for eligible BUDI95 users and RM2.37 per litre for eligible Budi Diesel users.
Eligible Malaysians can purchase subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to eligibility requirements and their monthly balance.
The ministry also urged consumers to use fuel prudently by planning journeys efficiently and avoiding unnecessary travel.
New prices from Aug 13 to 19:
- RON97: RM4.15 per litre, down 20 sen.
- Non-subsidised RON95: RM3.62 per litre, down 15 sen.
- Non-subsidised diesel: RM4.47 per litre, down 10 sen.
The Government said it would continue monitoring global developments to ensure fuel supplies remain sufficient and secure.
