PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across seven states, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, effective until 1pm today.
In the central region, the weather alert covers major parts of Selangor, including Petaling, Klang, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Selangor, alongside Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
In the southern region, severe weather is forecast across the entire states of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, as well as Pontian, Batu Pahat, Muar, Tangkak and Segamat in Johor.
In Pahang, storms are expected in Bera, Rompin and Bentong.
Over in East Malaysia, the alert spans multiple divisions in Sarawak, including Kapit (Bukit Mabong, Kapit and Song), Sri Aman, Betong (Betong), Sarikei (Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Miri and Marudi), and Limbang.
In Sabah, severe weather is expected in Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Sipitang and Membakut), alongside Labuan.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 8.45am today.
