KULIM: Two criminal suspects made a dramatic getaway from the Kulim Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning (Aug 12) after spotting police waiting to rearrest them at the building's main entrance.
The men, aged 27 and 31, had just completed a case management and document handover session at around 10.00am when they noticed officers from the South Seberang Perai district police headquarters waiting outside.
Kulim District Police Chief Supt Syamsul Sinring said the duo immediately split up to evade arrest.
"One of them fled through the court compound and scaled down a first-floor pillar, while the other re-entered the building and slipped out through a rear exit," Syamsul said in a statement. "Both men then reunited at the back of the property and climbed over the court boundary fence."
The suspects were originally charged on April 30 under Sections 324 and 353 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon and using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, respectively. Both were out on bail set at RM3,000 and RM4,000 pending trial.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate the fugitives. Meanwhile, cell phone footage of the suspects vaulting the courthouse perimeter fence has gone viral on social media.
