Boyfriend held over murder of female student in Kuantan

KUANTAN: A female student is believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend at a house on Jalan Air Putih here in the early hours of Tuesday (Oct 6) morning.

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Ashari Abu Samah said the woman's boyfriend placed an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.32am.

He said the team dispatched to the location found the 19-year-old victim lying on a bed in a rented room on the ground floor of the house.

"Preliminary examination by forensic specialists from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan found pressure marks on the victim's neck," he said in a statement Tuesday.

Ashari said a 19-year-old man was detained at the scene to assist investigations. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim.

"We have obtained a seven-day remand order from a Kuantan Magistrate's Court until Oct 12 to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.

He said a post-mortem is scheduled Tuesday to determine the actual cause of death.

A thorough investigation is underway, with police recording witness statements and obtaining forensic reports to complete the probe.

Police advised the public against speculating or spreading unverified information regarding the case, as this could compromise the investigation.

"Members of the public with any information are also urged to come forward to assist police with the case," he said. - Bernama
