JOHOR BARU: A company director and a factory worker have been charged at the Magistrate’s and Sessions Court here with a series of offences including stealing a lorry, attempted murder and dangerous driving.

Low Boon Lai, 39, and Chai Min Quan, 37, were brought to the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (Oct 6), where they pleaded not guilty to stealing a lorry at a petrol station on Jalan Mutiara 4, Taman Perindustrian Plentong here.

Factory worker Low, dressed in a black jacket, was individually charged in another Magistrate’s Court with driving the lorry dangerously against traffic flow and making a U-turn that put the public in danger.

He was also charged with two other offences - the possession of 0.7g of methamphetamine on Jalan Mawar Biru at the Pasir Gudang Industrial Area and for obstructing a policeman from performing his duties at the Pasir Putih police station.

He pleaded not guilty to the three charges, said to have taken place at around 8.25am and 10.20am on Sept 30.

The court offered bail at RM5,000 and next mention on Nov 5 for the dangerous driving charge, RM3,000 and next mention on Dec 7 for the drug charge and RM3,500 and next mention on Oct 23 for obstruction.

Separately at a Sessions Court, Chai claimed trial to attempted murder after he was accused of ramming into a 44-year-old man with a black pick-up truck with the knowledge that the action could result in death.

The company directors pleaded not guilty before Sessions Judge N. Kanageswari for the offence framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

The court allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety and set Nov 18 for next mention.

The cases were prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Eizlan Azhar, Sarah Siti Aisyah Mustapha Kamal, Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam and Insp S. Vikineswary while Chai was represented by counsel Yap Che Kai and Low was unrepresented.
