Malaysians urged to leave Iran 'by any available means'

PETALING JAYA: Given rapidly deteriorating conditions in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Wisma Putra strongly urges Malaysians to leave the country immediately.

In a statement Tuesday (June 17), the Foreign Affairs Ministry said it was closely monitoring the security situation in Iran through the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran.

"This ongoing effort has intensified following the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression against Iran on June 13, which have significantly heightened tensions in the region.

"Given the rapidly deteriorating conditions, all Malaysians currently in Iran are strongly urged to leave the country immediately by any available means," Wisma Putra said in the statement.

It added that the situation remains highly volatile and may worsen without warning.

"The safety and well-being of Malaysian citizens remains the utmost priority of the Ministry," it said.

The statement also said that at this time, the embassy is in constant contact with all registered Malaysians in Iran.

"At present, all have been confirmed safe and have been advised to depart the country without delay. The embassy will continue to provide the necessary consular assistance to facilitate their departures," Wisma Putra said.

It added that in the event of an emergency, Malaysians in Iran can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran at No.25, 2nd Alley, North Zarafshan St., Shahrak-e-Gharb or call +98-21 8807 2444, +98-21 8807 8606, or +98-933 535 2602 or email mwtehran@kln.gov.my and mwconsular.teh@gmail.com.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has also activated its Operations Room, effective Tuesday. Immediate family members of Malaysians in Iran may contact Wisma Putra for further information via telephone at +603-8887 4570 or by email to dutyofficer@kln.gov.my.
