Six charged in Johor court over fraudulent Socso incentive claims

JOHOR BARU: Five company owners and a business consultant with a Datuk title have been charged at the Sessions Court here with offences related to the submission of fraudulent claims under the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) Daya Kerjaya 2.0 incentive programme.

Business owners Misni Arsan, 66, Junizan Yacob, 48, Mohd Sam Anagin, 60, Norazlinah Mohammad Hassan, 43, and Mohd Izuan Sohaini, 44, and business consultant Datuk Rosli Buang, 55, claimed trial to their respective charges after they were read out separately before Judge N. Kanageswari on Wednesday (Aug 12).

Misni had allegedly given a Socso agent a Borang Pengesahan Pekerja Daya Kerja 2.0 document to claim an incentive when he knew the contents were false.

He was accused of committing three counts of the same offence at Pusat Perkhidmatan Pertanian Bersepadu, Sri Medan, in Batu Pahat on April 5.

Junizan was slapped with four charges of trying to deceive Socso. He allegedly committed the offences at Kampung Parit Warijo in Batu Pahat on April 14, 2024.

Mohd Izuan was given two charges of the same offence and was accused of committing them between April 18 and May 17, 2024, at Parit Sulong in Batu Pahat.

Mohd Sam was accused of committing the same offence at Kampung Parit Warijo, Sri Medan, in Batu Pahat on May 22, 2024, while Norazlinah was accused of committing the offence at the same place on June 11, 2024.

They were charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for intending to deceive a principal using false or misleading claims.

Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the sum or value of the false claim involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Meanwhile, Rosli pleaded not guilty to one charge of abetting Mohd Sam in committing the alleged offence.

He was charged under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act. If convicted, he can face a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount involved or RM10,000.

The five company owners were represented by lawyer Norashikin Syafiqah Atham Malik, while Rosli was represented by a lawyer from the legal aid department.

The case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Chan Lee Lee and MACC prosecuting officers Alice Voon, Fazal Lizam Abidin and Ameera D' Aneez Mohd Shukari.

The court set bail at RM8,000 for Rosli, Norazlinah and Mohd Sam. Mohd Izuan was offered bail of RM10,000 while Misni and Junizan were given bail at RM12,000, with one surety each for all six accused.

All the accused are also required to report to the nearest MACC office once a month, surrender their passports and not disturb witnesses involved in the case.

The court fixed Sept 18 for the next mention for document submission and to allow Rosli to appoint counsel.
