PETALING JAYA: Former Subang MP Wong Chen has joined Bersama, days after resigning from his parliamentary seat.
In a statement on Wednesday (Aug 12), Bersama announced that Wong would join the party effective today and oversee the preparation of the party's policy papers.
"Wong Chen has submitted his membership application online, which will be processed according to the party's membership rules.
"He has been an MP since 2013.
"Ahead of National Day this year (2026), we (Bersama) will begin publishing a series of policy papers known as Kertas Kancil, detailing each of the party's 12 agendas, including the laws and programmes that need to be implemented.
"Wong will oversee the series with Sum Dek Joe and other policy thinkers," it said in the statement.
Bersama then announced its first group of seven party spokespeople.
"The first seven spokespeople are Sum Dek Joe, Ibrahim Sani, Wan Zulaika Abdul Kahar, Jhen Pei Seah, Anbarasan Murugesu, Tang Hong Yau and Rabiatul Adawiyah Sulaiman.
"They come from backgrounds including economics, accounting, engineering, media and law," it said.
The party then said it is introducing three categories of positions – Spokesperson, Shadow Candidate and Mobiliser – as part of preparations for party elections to select a new leadership line-up.
"Amendments to Bersama's constitution are currently being drafted to align with the requirements of the Societies Act," it said.
Wong, a three-term MP who had been with PKR for nearly two decades, had previously indicated that he would eventually leave the party after Rafizi and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned their parliamentary seats to lead Bersama.
Wong was among three PKR MPs whose access to the MyKhas constituency funding portal was revoked after they attended Bersama’s launch event in May. The other two were Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung.
