PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Embassy in Seoul is providing necessary assistance for the family of the Malaysian man killed in South Korea, says Wisma Putra.
The Foreign Ministry said the embassy has been in contact with the next-of-kin and is extending the necessary consular assistance to the family, including facilitating documentation, funeral arrangements and the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia
"We were informed that other Malaysians are involved in the ongoing investigation.
"The embassy would continue to obtain verified information from the South Korean authorities while providing appropriate consular assistance to the Malaysians involved, in accordance with the country's laws and applicable international obligations," it said in a statement on Monday (July 27).
The ministry also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of Malaysians abroad.
It also reminded Malaysians living in or travelling overseas to respect and comply with the laws and regulations of their host countries.
The ministry added that it had been informed that the incident is under investigation by the South Korean authorities.
"We will not disclose further details about the deceased or the circumstances surrounding the incident out of respect for the ongoing investigation and the privacy of the victim's family," it added.
Ahmad Shah Ahmad Ros, who had been working in South Korea for nearly seven years, was killed after he intervened in a fight involving a group of individuals in Daeso-eup, Eumseong County.
Following the incident, South Korean authorities detained a Malaysian man in his 40s, as well as several other Malaysians who witnessed the incident, to assist in the investigation.
