AFTER gaining attention for selling drinks during Ramadan, former national footballer Mohammad Gopi Rizqi, 36, has now turned to selling popiah carbonara, Utusan Malaysia reported.

He currently helps his wife, Siti Norhidayah Roslan, 38, who ran the food business online as a source of extra income.

“There are three varieties – chicken, beef and mixed – and we’re selling them in Johor Baru and Pontian.”

Gopi said he is now fully focused on making the spring rolls with his wife, having stopped selling drinks after Ramadan.

He began the food venture selling beverages in front of his in-laws’ home in Kampung Api-Api to make ends meet following unresolved salary arrears with a football club in the capital.

On his football career, Gopi said he had been invited to assist a primary school football team for an upcoming Under-12 tournament, but has yet to be approached by any local football academies.

Gopi previously played for Sri Pahang FC (2010–2015), Selangor (2016), Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) (2017–2018), Melaka United (2018), PDRM (2019), and returned to Pahang in 2020.

> A wedding in Bandung, Indonesia, has gone viral after the bride and groom opted to give guests bundles of fresh vegetables as wedding favours, instead of the usual sweets or trinkets, Sinar Harian reported.

The ceremony, held on the eve of Chinese New Year at Universitas Padjadjaran, featured a traditional theme with lush, tropical-inspired decor. Shared on TikTok by user @syalalaye, it drew praise for its originality and practicality.

“We didn’t want a boring or cliche gift,” bride Tiara Ratnaningsih told Wolipop.

The unusual gift proved to be a hit, especially among women, who welcomed the chance to bring home something that would benefit their household. Many praised the idea for being both sustainable and budget-friendly.
