PKR polls: Rafizi casts vote with an hour to go

JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli cast his vote in PKR’s central leadership election at a hotel here about an hour before the close of polling.

The PKR deputy president arrived at around 4pm on Friday (May 23), surrounded by supporters shouting the “Reformasi” slogan.

Asked why he appeared just an hour before voting closed, the Economy Minister said he had gone for Friday prayers and lunch.

“The voting process only took me about five minutes. So I did what I had to do first, (the timing) was just nice,” he told the press.

Asked if he would be attending the launch of the PKR National Congress, which would be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his position as PKR president this evening, Rafizi said he would.

“I will also be attending tomorrow’s event. Why would I not?” he said with a smile.

Rafizi’s appearance took delegates and the media by surprise as the central PKR youth debates were going on.

Rafizi is defending his party post against Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Elections for the party's 2025-2028 session, including the central leadership council, the youth leadership council and the women’s leadership council, began at 8am and will end at 5pm. The results will be announced on Saturday (May 24).
