KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has brushed off calls to dissolve Parliament, urging the opposition to "give it time" as the current government still holds the mandate to govern.
Anwar emphasised that the public is prioritising economic recovery and political stability over endless political manoeuvring.
"I believe the people also want stability. The people want the economy to grow, and they do not want us to only engage in politics all the time," Anwar said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (July 14).
Addressing the opposition directly, the Prime Minister added: "So give it time. Do not be overconfident. I also do not want to be too confident—and I hope Hulu Terengganu, too, will not be too confident."

Anwar was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu), who asked if the Prime Minister intended to dissolve Parliament and return the mandate to the electorate.
In his question, Rosol had cited concerns over economic performance, regional geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, and overall domestic political and economic stability as justifications for an early election.
Anwar said the government has never claimed to have the miracle cure for the economy.
“However, I have never said that we have all the miracle cure for the economy. We must listen and make adjustments.
"That is why, in our meetings, we do not only invite ministers. We also invite representatives from companies, representatives from smallholders, and listen to their views so that we can make adjustments where possible,” he added.
