JOHOR BARU: PKR's Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) members have been told to use the youth wing as a forum for young people to contribute to national development.

AMK chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim (pic) said every member must proactively encourage youths' involvement in nation-building efforts.

"Reflect on what (you) can contribute, whether small or big. This is my challenge to you. Don't wait for instructions, for a position, or for a title.

"Take a different approach. Diligently continue our advocacy work, think of new policies and strategies and open important discourses, especially on the fate of the youth,” he said here on Friday (May 23).

He was delivering his keynote address as AMK chief in conjunction with the movement's national congress, themed "Membangun Madani, Menuju Reformasi”.

The event was also attended by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and AMK deputy chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who is also the political secretary to the Finance Minister.

Adam Adli, who is also Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, said AMK members must equip themselves with knowledge of world affairs.

"We are the youth wing to the ruling party… in general terms, the main business of a political party is to win elections.

"As a ruling party, our responsibility now goes beyond just contesting and winning elections.

"Develop the country as well as its people and meet the responsibilities and hopes placed on us, not just fulfil election pledges," he said.

The Hang Tuah Jaya MP Member of Parliament added that AMK must also actively train its members as future leaders.

"Identify hidden talents, organise discussions and teach about the party's values and history.

"Don't just be proud to have many followers but imbue them with the party's spirit.

"We must emerge as the hope of the people ... so that they will have confidence in us," he said, adding that AMK now has more than 260,000 members in over 190 divisions nationwide.

Voting for the party's central leadership positions, as well as the AMK and Wanita PKR (women's wing) leadership councils, is ongoing today and will conclude at 5pm.

The results will be officially announced on Saturday (May 24). – Bernama
