Allow workers affected by road closures to WFH, Fahmi urges private sector

KUALA LUMPUR: Private sector companies should allow employees affected by road closures due to the 46th Asean Summit and related summits to work remotely, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said companies could provide some flexibility during this period.

“The Prime Minister has also said that private companies should be encouraged to give employees a little space to work from home.

“Its also a good opportunity for us to be good hosts,” he said during his weekly briefing here on Wednesday (May 21).

Fahmi also said more than 1,200 local media personnel and more than 500 international media personnel have registered to cover the Asean Summit and related summits.

“We also urge all who are closely following the summits to only refer to official media outlets,” he said.

Fahmi added that all Cabinet ministers will be involved throughout the Asean Summit and related summits.

“All ministers will be on board, involved in official events or bilateral meetings, and also to receive and send off dignitaries,” he said.

Malaysia will host the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits from May 26 to 27.

Wisma Putra is taking the lead in organising these summits under Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year with the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.

Two other high-level meetings – the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the Asean-GCC-China Economic Summit – will also be held.
