KOTA KINABALU: Two teenagers have been remanded for allegedly abandoning a newborn in Tawau.
The teens, both 15, were nabbed after the discovery of an infant in Kg Jawa in Tawau early Tuesday (July 21).
The boy will be remanded for four days until July 25, while the undocumented girl will be under remand for 14 days.
On July 21, some villagers discovered a crying baby hidden among bushes near the village.
The boy was detained at around 10.40am from Kg Jawa Sentosa while the girl was caught some 30 minutes later in the same village.
Acting district police chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said police received two reports regarding the discovery of the baby, and that the case was being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment.
