KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS is supporting flood relief efforts in Sabah with contributions of essential supplies to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to be used during this monsoon season.
The contributions, channelled to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sabah and the Sabah Social Welfare Department (JPKAS), will support disaster response operations and essential needs at temporary evacuation centres.
The contribution to APM comprises rain jackets, life jackets and Mesra gift cards to support its disaster response operations, helping personnel carry out relief efforts and reach affected communities during emergencies.
For JPKAS, contributions include rubber slippers, buckets and water dippers, electric hot water dispensers, water storage containers, drinking water and T-shirts, helping to meet the basic hygiene, sanitation and daily needs of affected communities during flood emergencies.
Separately, Yayasan PETRONAS also supports disaster relief efforts in Sabah by providing care packages in coordination with JPKAS.
General Manager of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, handed over the contribution at Sabah International Convention Centre here on Thursday to Datuk Awang Shahminan Awang Sahari, who serves as Secretary of the State Disaster Management Committee.
“The monsoon season can bring significant challenges to affected communities, and being prepared helps ensure essential assistance is available when it is needed most.
“PETRONAS remains committed to working closely with the relevant authorities to strengthen flood preparedness and support relief efforts across Sabah,” said Siti Ayu.
Awang Shahminan said food preparedness is not only about ensuring assistance reaches affected communities, but also equipping frontline personnel to carry out operations quickly and safely.
“This contribution supports both priorities, and we appreciate PETRONAS’ continued partnership in strengthening Sabah’s disaster response capabilities,” he said.
In April this year, PETRONAS also extended assistance to families affected by the fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, which damaged homes and displaced residents.
Also present were the Director of APM Sabah, Mohd Yusoff Samad and Senior Assistant Director of JPKAS, Bil Suhud Mohammad.
