MELAKA: The agreement between the government and Opposition lawmakers can be made public amid controversy over its description as a “Dajjal approach”, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said he had no objection to disclosing the agreement and would raise the matter at the Cabinet meeting on Friday (Nov 6).
“I have no problem with it. Disclose what was signed, what was agreed upon and who signed it.
“I will bring this up at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow,” he said during the Jelajah Aspirasi Madani programme in Bukit Rambai here on Thursday (Nov 5).
Anwar drew parallels with the memorandum of understanding signed between the government and Opposition during Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration, questioning why a similar arrangement was now being condemned using religious terminology.
He recalled that he was Opposition leader when the agreement was signed with Ismail Sabri’s administration, which included PAS, Umno and Bersatu.
“When they signed it, it was halal. When we sign it, they call it 'Dajjal'. This is politics,” he said.
Anwar also questioned the use of such language by religious figures, saying political disagreements should not be used to justify accusations that could undermine Islamic values.
“In Islam, it is not about the turban or the beard. It is about character. That is how people judge us.
“Imagine how non-Muslims would view this. When they agree with someone, it is halal, but when they disagree, it becomes 'Dajjal'. That cannot be right,” he said.
He said the same principle applied to those who casually labelled political opponents as hypocrites, stressing that differences should be resolved through respectful discussions.
Anwar reiterated that his administration remained open to negotiations with political opponents, regardless of their political affiliations.
“I am on good terms with the government. Whatever needs to be discussed, we can discuss it properly,” he said.
