PKR polls: Eleven names officially entered for party veep posts

PETALING JAYA: Eleven names have officially entered the race for four PKR vice-presidency posts on Friday (May 9), signalling a potentially competitive contest in the party’s upcoming internal election slated for May 21.

One of them is Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, who told The Star in a quick reply that he and 10 others have submitted their nomination papers.

It is understood that the four incumbents - Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Science and Technology Minister Chang Lih Kang, Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shaari - have submitted their papers.

Apart from that, the field also includes Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister R Ramanan, who is also PKR’s deputy information chief I and Segamat MP R Yuneswaran.

Other confirmed candidates are party deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan, Senator Abun Sui Anyit, former Selangor exco member Hee Loy Sian and former PKR vice-president Mustaffa Kamil Ayub.

As of now, no nominations have been submitted for the party’s top two posts — president and deputy president — although speculation is rife that a contest may emerge for the latter.
