SEREMBAN: Six of the eight PKR division heads in Negri Sembilan are backing Nurul Izzah Anwar for deputy presidency in the coming party polls.
The six are Jufitri Joha (Rembau), Zainal Fikri Abd Kadir (Jelebu), Noor Iskandar Mohamad Noor (Seremban), Ahmad Izzudin Ismail (Rasah), Ismail Muhamad Nor (Kuala Pilah) and V Raja (Tampin).
"The party needs an individual outside the government, and one who is not holding any ministerial post, to focus on party work.
"Work to strengthen the party had not been carried out seriously, and this is important as we need to start preparing for the next general election," they said.
This, they said, was also important to allow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to continue to lead the nation.
They said Nurul Izzah was the right person to become deputy president as she had been a leader in the Reformasi movement.
Nurul Izzah also qualified on merit as she was a leader known both locally and abroad.
"The party needs an experienced leader like her who has been tested when the party was facing both difficult and good times.
"This change in leadership is also transitional and good to ensure the party always has leaders of calibre and quality," they added.
