PETALING JAYA: A digital asset and artificial intelligence (AI) advisory council will be set up to help put Malaysia at the forefront of the digital global economy, says the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.
During the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) briefing on Thursday (May 8), Tunku Nashrul said the government had agreed to form the council, which will comprise experts from inside and outside the country.
The council will have a line-up of experts including industry experts, academics and policymakers to ensure that the approaches taken are in line with global best practices and at the same time suitable for the Malaysian context.
“Digital technology assets and AI will be the main driver for global economic growth and the country’s competitiveness,” he said.
As for the Asean Summit, which will take place on May 26-27 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, he said Anwar has emphasised the importance of thorough preparations among ministries and agencies.
“As Asean Chair for 2025, Malaysia aspires to ensure that this summit reflects the concrete actions for the interest of people and member states,” he said.
He said to ensure that the summit is smooth sailing, the Education Ministry has announced online learning for schools in the areas involved.
Aside from that, civil servants and private sector employees are encouraged to work from home to reduce pressure on public infrastructure.
Anwar also had a phone call with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Asean’s action on the regional humanitarian crisis, including Myanmar and the US tariff issue.
He added that both leaders also discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral ties following a recent working visit.
