PMO to launch daily briefing on Facebook to combat fake news

PETALING JAYA: To address fake news and the spread of false information, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will be having a daily briefing that is published across its social media sites.

According to the PMO, the briefing will be published on the Facebook accounts of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PMO at 11am and 5pm beginning Monday (March 3).

The PMO said the briefing would be delivered by the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.

In a video posted on Anwar’s account on X, Tunku Nashrul said the main purpose of the briefing was to ensure that Malaysians obtained accurate information from official sources.

“Through this briefing, the PMO will explain current issues, important policies and latest developments that should be known by the people.

“This is an important step to curb the spread of slander and fake information that is confusing the society,” said Tunku Nashrul.

Tunku Nashrul said that as the fasting month was set to begin soon, the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit several ministries to meet civil servants, where he would conduct a knowledge-sharing session with guest speakers during these events.

“Through these programmes, the values of honesty, discipline, and responsibility will be fostered among civil servants, which is in line with the prosperity pillar in the Madani framework,” he said.

Tunku Nashrul also said the Prime Minister agreed to visit several states during the fasting month to strengthen cooperation between the federal and state governments.

“Further details on the dates and locations for each event will be announced soon through official government channels.

Tunku Nashrul also said the PMO encouraged all Malaysians to join these events as a sign of togetherness and unity.

“The PMO believes that clear communication, openness in administration and the strengthening of spiritual values are important elements in creating trust between the government and the people,” he said.

“Let us make this Ramadan a month of reforms in communications, administration and life,” added Tunku Nashrul.
